MOBILE, ALABAMA – December 8, 2024 – American Roll-On Roll-Off Carrier (ARC) marked a milestone as its M/V Patriot arrived at the port of Mobile, Alabama, delivering eight (8) lifeboats for the U.S. Navy’s USNS Comfort. This was the first-ever call made by an ARC vessel to Mobile.
The lifeboats, integral to the USNS Comfort‘s mission, were securely loaded in Bremerhaven, Germany, before being transported across the Atlantic to Mobile. This shipment highlights ARC’s ongoing commitment to providing reliable logistical solutions to the U.S. military, ensuring the readiness of vital assets.
The lifeboats will be delivered from the port to the USNS Comfort, a hospital ship operated by the U.S. Navy’s Military Sealift Command (MSC) currently undergoing an extensive overhaul and upgrades at the Alabama Shipyard in Mobile.

The delivery underscores ARC’s longstanding partnership with the U.S. military, providing transport solutions for a variety of cargo, including heavy vehicles, helicopters, personal property, and other equipment for the U.S. government and its various agencies.

The USNS Comfort is a 1,000 bed hospital ship commissioned in 1986. It is staffed by a military cadre crew of approximately eight (8) officers and fifty-three (53) enlisted personnel, along with a civilian mariner cadre crew of approximately fifteen (15) personnel while in a Reduced Operating Status (ROS). The USNS Comfort, along with her sister ship USNS Mercy, provides mobile, acute surgical medical facilities when needed by the U.S. military and supports U.S. disaster relief and humanitarian operations around the globe.
